Water play

Thank goodness the full heat of summer has not yet arrived- today, May 1st, is sunny and warm, but with a nice fresh breeze and without the humidity that summer brings.

After lunch, Monkey, the 3 dogs and the Cat were outside in the car park.  Monkey thinks it's hilarious when the Puppy comes bounding up to him, long pink-and-black tongue lolling out the corner of her mouth.  Cat was out there too, having fun asserting his authority by chasing the Puppy around between all the cars.  Then Daisy and Puppy started playing hide and seek between the cars, all of which Monkey thought was hilarious.

And here's a bit of good inexpensive fun for these recession-hit days.  Get a bucket, watering can and dish and let the young ones splash away!  Parental supervision at all times required, of course.

This isn't really a food blog, but I wanted to end up with a photo of what we made the other night: I've been buying these 'schnitzel'- cut steaks but we don't eat beef very often and were wondering what to do with them.  Well, DH made a satay marinade from small onions, garlic, lengkuas, serai, ginger, jintan manis, ketumbar, tumeric, cinnamon and tamarind (salt to taste) and marinaded the beef.  He also made a satay gravy from chilli, garlic, onions, balacan, buah keras, serai, pounded peanuts and sugar (salt to taste). It was a nice evening and the steak was cooked on an impromptu barbecue made with a wire rack over charcoal.  Then the gravy was spooned over for our beef satay sans stick!  Tasted fab!
