We took Monkey for a walk in the afternoon and went up Jardine's Lookout service reservoir, to checkpoint 5. We passed WWII pillboxes, stony and sad in the mist and I tried not to think of people who had lost their lives there. There's a strange pergola there, with a makeshift roof over stone pillars. There were abandoned tables and chairs, and a plastic basket with mahjong chips on the floor- people probably used this to camp out and play mahjong once.
We found a path through the forest, and a cave! I had Monkey on my back and could not go in, and even the dogs didn't dare to venture too far in. It didn't feel like Hong Kong at all, maybe somewhere in Wales, with secret mists and hidden caves.
