I can't believe another Christmas is nearly over. It's 9pm on Christmas evening and we're all tired but happy. We had 9 adults, 3 babies and 3 helpers at lunch today, and the table groaned under the weight of a large roast turkey stuffed with 2 stuffings: chestnut in one end and chicken and sage in the other. To start, we had a thick pumpkin soup served with freshly-baked pumpkin bread, both made from the pumpkin grown in the back garden.
We also had a ham, studded with cloves; devils on horseback (bacon wrapped around chipolata sausages from Olivers, yum; some bacon wrapped around dates too which were very more-ish); red cabbage with cinnamon; stir-fried beans; potatos and parsnips double-deep fried in goose fat.
And to finish, home made mince pies, home made chocolate log cake and the obligatory christmas pud, store-bought, but cheered up with a slug of cognac.
It was a slightly chaotic morning, but we were only slightly late serving up, and I don't think anyone went hungry!
