This is what we did to work off all that Christmas food. I took my new acquisition- a hiking backpack, put Monkey in it, and off we set. On one day, we went from Parkview to Jardine's Lookout (Hong Kong Trail Stage 5), via 599 steps. I can tell you, heaving a heavy monkey up 599 steps is no mean feat!
Apparently in colonial days, a watch was kept from up here for returning Jardine Matheson vessels so that a fast boat could be sent out to collect Jardine mails. The views at the top make it (almost) all worthwhile.
The next two days, we did an easier hike up the back of FIS to Jardine's Lookout Service Reservoir No. 2. We went there through the forest, along slippery trails covered in bamboo leaves. When you get out to the top of the reservoir, you have this magnificent view over to Mount Nicolson; it's a big open grassy patch and the dogs always run around like crazy burning off steam.
Monkey loved being what was, to him, an extended piggyback ride. He didn't mind bashing his way through the jungle (though I tried to make sure nothing hit him over the face!) and kept babbling and pointing at the dogs bounding along, at everything he saw.
